The 20Tenors were born in a chance conversation between GIBS Professor Jonathan Cook and Richard Cock – the link to 2010 seemed obvious - and after the 3 Tenors and the 10 Tenors what could be more spectacular than 20 Tenors, especially since 2010 was, and is just around the corner.

Richard Cock and vocal coach Nicholas Nicholaidis visited several centres around South Africa, auditioning tenors and putting together a team representative of almost all nine provinces, and with many of the singers coming from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

With choreographer and Strictly Come Dancing host Ian von Memerty as the director and choreographer, and with the backing of the Cape Philharmonic and Johannesburg Festival Orchestras for appearances at Starlight Classics, the 20Tenors were an immediate hit, delighting crowds of over 5000.

Many of the tenors have gone on to have very successful solo careers.
