Concert Series

Here are some of the ongoing concert series we have, some of which have been going for as longas 44 years and with a huge variety of different spaces and music styles.

We hope to keep these going for many years to come!

Last Night of the Proms

A musical extravaganza of popular and well known light classical music. A full orchestra and massed choirs conducted by Richard Cock.

Orchestra from Scratch

Presented in 2012 for the first time, Orchestra from Scratch was an opportunity for amateur orchestral musicians (with a minimum of Grade 3) to experience playing with others in an orchestral setting. Players receive the music in advance and practice for weeks before coming together for one day of rehearsals and a concert.

Players come from as far afield as Nelspruit and Polokwane to join in this fantastic event. The number of players has ranged from 81, all the way up to 171 and we have had players from the ages of 7 to 87!

The musicians are encouraged to participate as much as they can and the emphasis is on the fun of the experience rather than getting everything 100% correct. Corobrik has been the main sponsor of this event from the very beginning, understanding the excellent impact an event such as this has on individuals for experiencing teamwork and togetherness. It is also supported by the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra.

Songs of Praise

One of the amazing things about Songs of Praise is that these concerts are entirely adaptable to the local community. As they are held in many different parts of South Africa, no concert is ever the same, and each brings own unique flair. They are a huge hit within their local communities!

Eldorado Park Community Concerts

The other side of Richard Cøck Music Enterprises, which is community engagement and upliftment through the Apollo Music Trust. The aim of this concert is to bring together twelve primary school choirs from Eldorado Park in order to hold a massed choir and orchestra event in which these children can get together, engage with and be inspired by one another, and learn more about orchestral music and instruments.

This concert will also feature a couple of local artists and bands to give them an opportunity to establish their names within their community. In addition, musical workshops will be held to teach the children about the different instruments of an orchestra, and to show them the music that can be created when they all play together.

A huge thank you to the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra for their support. It has been a very interesting and rewarding experience, and we will try to keep this concert going as an annual music project at the schools.

Vocal Masterclass & Scholarship Scheme

Every year for the past 17 years the Apollo Music Trust has run a masterclass for talented and promising singers, and as a result of these masterclasses many of those singers have benefitted from a fully funded year of study, or longer, in Germany. We had a very good link with Cologne for many years, and now the link is with the Hochschule in Lübeck. Most of these singers have found positions in Europe or America.

The final recital is open to the public and ends with a concert, at which the candidates will be showcasing their talents.
