Last Night of the Proms
Last Night of the Proms concerts are held in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Durban. It is a musical party following in the tradition of the Last Night of the PROMS which is held annually in the Albert Hall in London.
This is very much family entertainment and highly interactive with the audience joining in everything from Mexican waves to the Hallelujah Chorus.
By doing these concerts annually in four different centres, the concerts have built up a country-wide following, which means that the charities which benefit from these concerts are able to continue to do their much-needed work. Beneficiaries include Lifeline Johannesburg, St Francis Hospice, The Bursary Fund of the British Cultural and Heritage Association and Rotary Wynberg, which support several different good causes.
Every year, new young soloists are given a platform and an opportunity to work with a professional conductor and orchestra. This is an important developmental part of these concerts.
