Songs of Praise

Songs of Praise was first performed in the UK in 1961. Following a suggestion by the Reverend Keith du Plessis in 1991, Songs of Praise was first performed in the City Hall in Johannesburg the following year, and was a huge success.

The idea has now spread throughout South Africa and each year about 10 performances take place. These range from smaller community venues, with just piano or organ, to larger centres where a full symphony orchestra underpins the performances. Its great popularity hinges on the fact that, with its wide range of sacred music, it appeals to all ages and the differing musical tastes of the general listener.
