Sundown at Northwards
Northwards is a beautifully restored Herbert Baker designed home, built at the beginning of the last century for Mr Dale Lace, one of the Johannesburg mining magnates of the time. It is situated on the Parktown Ridge and has a superb view over northern Johannesburg as far as the Magaliesberg Mountains.
This extremely popular series of concerts has been running for nearly 20 years and plays to full houses. Concerts take place once a month, usually on the third Sunday, and provide a platform for artists to perform some of the world's best chamber music. The platform is primarily for South African artists, but has also hosted several outstanding international artists.
These concerts have been supported in the past by BHP Billiton and Appletiser. They are currently sponsored by the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust and the Northwards Trust.
Any proceeds from these concerts go through the Apollo Music Trust towards supporting young, talented South African artists in furthering their music studies and careers.
